Can I Convert My SafeGold Digital Gold into CaratLane Jewellery? Complete Redemption Guide

Yes. Your SafeGold balance can be redeemed for CaratLane jewellery, online or in any of CaratLane’s 330+ stores across India. The process involves selecting your jewellery, verifying your SafeGold account, and applying your balance during checkout.

This guide covers exactly how the SafeGold-CaratLane exchange works, the conversion formula, what your balance does and doesn’t cover, and five things to know before you redeem.

How SafeGold Redemption at CaratLane Works

When you redeem SafeGold at CaratLane, your digital gold balance is applied as payment toward the gold weight component of the jewellery piece you select. CaratLane converts your 24K SafeGold grams to the karat of the jewellery using a published formula.

The gram-for-gram offer:

You receive the full value of your 24K SafeGold balance with no wastage deduction applied during the SafeGold redemption process. Standard making charges may still apply. This is the key advantage over selling your gold and buying jewellery separately. The wastage you’d normally lose as a cash seller is waived.

The karat conversion formula:

SafeGold is 24K (99.99% pure). CaratLane jewellery is typically 18K or 22K. The conversion:

Grams of jewellery equivalent = SafeGold balance (g) × (99.99% ÷ purity percentage)

Your SafeGoldTarget karatConversionJewellery equivalent
1g (24K)22K (91.6%)1 × (99.99 ÷ 91.6)~1.09g of 22K
1g (24K)18K (75.0%)1 × (99.99 ÷ 75.0)~1.33g of 18K

Because 18K and 22K jewellery contain a lower percentage of pure gold than 24K gold, the equivalent jewellery weight is higher after purity conversion.

Online Exchange: How to Redeem SafeGold at CaratLane’s Website

Step 1: Browse CaratLane and select your jewellery

Visit caratlane.com or the CaratLane app. Browse CaratLane’s collections, including rings, necklaces, earrings, and bangles. Add your chosen piece to the cart and proceed to checkout.

Step 2: Verify with OTP and enter the redemption amount

Log in with your registered mobile number (the same number linked to your SafeGold account) and email. You’ll receive an OTP on both. Enter it to authenticate and fill in your address.

Step 3: Select SafeGold at payment

On the payment page, select SafeGold as your payment method. Then specify how much of your SafeGold balance you want to redeem (minimum ₹100).

Step 4: Pay the balance (if any)

If the jewellery’s gold component value exceeds your SafeGold balance’s rupee value, pay the difference via any standard payment method. Charges for diamonds, gemstones and other stones are always paid separately. Your SafeGold balance covers only the gold component.

The redeemed amount is deducted from your SafeGold balance. Your order is then processed as usual.

In-Store Exchange: How to Redeem SafeGold at a CaratLane Store

CaratLane has 330+ stores across India.

Step 1: Visit your nearest CaratLane store: Browse the jewellery available in-store and select the piece you want. No prior booking needed.

Step 2: Inform the store executive that you would like to redeem your SafeGold balance: Share your registered mobile number. The executive will initiate the exchange.

Step 3: Authenticate with an OTP: You’ll receive it on your mobile. Enter the OTP or share it with the store executive to authorise the transaction.

Step 4: Pay making charges and any remaining balance: Your SafeGold balance covers the gold component. Making charges and any balance are paid at the counter.

Redeeming your digital gold into jewellery is a lifestyle decision as much as a financial one. If you’re wondering whether jewellery is the best way to own gold over the long term, read our guide: Is Gold Jewellery a Good Investment in India?

What Your SafeGold Balance Covers and What It Doesn’t

Know this before you walk in or check out.

Your balance DOES cover:

  • The gold weight component of the jewellery piece (applied at SafeGold’s sell rate)
  • Partial redemption is allowed: apply any amount, minimum ₹100

Your balance DOES NOT cover:

  • Making charges (paid separately, set by CaratLane per piece)
  • Precious stones (diamonds, rubies, emeralds, etc.)
  • Synthetic stones
  • Gold coins: your SafeGold balance cannot be utilised against the purchase of gold coins at CaratLane
  • International orders: this feature is not available for orders shipped outside India

The Return Policy Difference

Products purchased at CaratLane using SafeGold jewellery exchange are treated as old gold redemptions. Because of this, they are generally not eligible for CaratLane’s standard 15-day money-back guarantee, though they typically remain eligible for the Lifetime Exchange policy.

This is different from regular CaratLane purchases. If you use your SafeGold balance to buy a CaratLane piece, you can exchange the product for another CaratLane product, but you cannot return it for a refund. Factor this in before selecting your piece.

Five Things to Know Before Redeeming Your SafeGold Balance

1. The 3 working-day holding rule: Users can only redeem their SafeGold digital gold after 3 working days of purchase. If you’ve recently topped up your SafeGold balance, wait 3 working days before initiating the CaratLane exchange.

2. Two different gold rates at checkout: Your SafeGold balance is valued at SafeGold’s sell rate. The jewellery’s gold component is priced at CaratLane’s store rate. Both are market-linked but independently set. A small gap can create a surprise at checkout. Consider maintaining a small buffer to account for price differences between SafeGold’s selling rate and CaratLane’s jewellery rate.

3. Making charges are set by CaratLane, not SafeGold: SafeGold has no control over CaratLane’s making charges. They vary in design, craftsmanship, and collection, just as for any CaratLane customer. Check the making charge on your specific piece before committing.

4. Use the same mobile number throughout: Your SafeGold account is linked to your registered mobile number. The CaratLane exchange authenticates via OTP to that same number. If your number has changed, update it in SafeGold before attempting the exchange.

5. Minimum redemption: ₹100. There’s no minimum gram requirement for the exchange; only a minimum value of ₹100 is required.  You can apply a partial balance and pay the rest separately.

SafeGold at CaratLane vs Selling and Buying Separately

Redeeming directly through CaratLane may be more cost-efficient than selling your digital gold and purchasing jewellery separately, particularly because no wastage deduction is applied during redemption. Actual savings depend on prevailing gold rates, making charges and the buy-sell spread at the time

RouteWhat you saveWhat you pay
SafeGold → CaratLane exchangeNo wastage deduction; avoid sell-side spread + fresh purchase GSTMaking charges (standard CaratLane rates)
Sell digital gold → buy CaratLane separatelyFull flexibility on return policy2–3% sell-side spread + 3% GST on new purchase + wastage at market rate

Conclusion

Your SafeGold digital gold converts directly to CaratLane jewellery online at caratlane.com or in any of 330+ CaratLane stores with no wastage deduction and no minimum gram requirement (minimum ₹100 value). Your SafeGold balance is applied only towards the gold value of the jewellery. Charges, diamonds, and other stones are paid separately. Products purchased via SafeGold exchange are eligible only for Lifetime Exchange at CaratLane, not for the standard 30-Day Money Back.

If you’re building a SafeGold position toward a specific CaratLane piece, start accumulating from ₹10 on SafeGold and use the exchange when your balance is ready.

How is my 24K SafeGold balance converted to CaratLane’s 18K or 22K jewellery?

Your 24K SafeGold balance is converted into the equivalent weight of 18K or 22K jewellery using CaratLane’s purity conversion formula: your 24K grams × (99.99% ÷ purity percentage). For 18K jewellery, 1 gram of SafeGold converts to ~1.33 grams of 18K equivalent. You receive more jewellery weight because 18K is less pure per gram.

Is CaratLane digital gold the same as SafeGold?

CaratLane’s own eGold product is a separate digital gold offering. The SafeGold-CaratLane exchange described in this article is specifically about redeeming your SafeGold balance (from safegold.com or any SafeGold partner app) as payment for CaratLane jewellery, not about CaratLane’s own digital gold product.
